What is the jewellery made out of?

Wild Rose Jewellery is all about luxurious and affordable metals. Each piece of jewellery is made out of either sterling silver or stainless steel. My golden pieces are made by plating either sterling silver or stainless steel with plated with 18k gold. The description on the product page will tell you exactly what the piece is made out of.

What is sterling silver?

Sterling silver is a mixture of 92.5% pure (or fine) silver and 7.5% other metals, usually zinc or copper. The addition of these other metals makes the silver much stronger and more durable, meaning your jewellery will last a lifetime with a bit of TLC. Sterling silver items are stamped with the 925 hallmark so that you know they're genuine.

What does 'gold plated' mean?

Gold plating refers to a process in which a base metal - whether that it sterling silver or stainless steel, has a layer of gold electroplated onto it. This means your gold plated jewellery will have the appearance of pure gold without the price tag! Taking care of your gold plated pieces will extend their lifetime.

What does PVD coating mean?

PVD coating stands for Physical Vapor Deposition, but what is that? PVD coating is where a piece of jewellery is vacuum coated to give the piece a highly functioning and brilliant finish. This gives the jewellery a more luxurious appearance and means it can withstand daily wear (sweat, water and chemicals) much better than it would without this special coating. It is particularly beneficial to gold plated jewellery which has a thin layer of gold that can wear away over time. The PVD coating will ensure that the gold will last much longer as it is ten times thicker. This adds not only durability, but also value to your jewellery. With regular cleaning, PVD coated jewellery can last a lifetime. All of Wild Rose's stainless steel jewellery is PVD coated.

Should I choose sterling silver or stainless steel?

Both sterling silver and stainless steel are perfect metals for jewellery making, where both possess their own qualities. But sometimes choosing which one is right for you can be mind-boggling! To keep it simple - sterling silver is made with 92.5% pure silver, making it more luxurious and slightly more expensive. It can tarnish over time so it does require regular cleaning to avoid a build up of dirt and oil. It is lightweight and very comfortable to wear. Stainless steel has an equality beautiful appearance, but is a less expensive metal and it doesn't tarnish. However, it does weigh more than sterling silver. Both materials are 100% hypoallergenic and waterproof.

What does 361L stainless steel mean?

361L is the type of stainless steel used for jewellery making. 361 and 361L stainless steel is strong, resistant to corrosion and more durable than 304 stainless steel.

Will the jewellery affect my sensitive skin?

All of Wild Rose's pieces are designed with your skin in mind. Every piece of jewellery is 100% hypoallergenic, which means it won't irritate your sensitive skin and it won't leave a green tinge as you may have experienced with other jewellery in the past.
